BRAILLE WRITING SYSTEM
Braille Alphabet
Braille system is not a language, it is an alphabet.
Braille can be used to represent letters, punctuation marks, numbers,
scientific and math symbols, music, etc…
Braille system consists of six point cells; these are
organized in two columns, numbered up to down and from left to right.
The sign generator allows only a number of
64 point combinations, this, is not an enough number of points for the complete
variety of letters, symbols or numbers in each language.
This limitation
demanded the invention of the “double symbols”. Some time ago, there was an
attempt to use a braille symbol composed by 8 points (this would considerably
increase the number of possible combinations) however, it was uncomfortable for
reading.
STRESSED VOWELS
As it is not
possible to stress mark on the braille vowel symbols, it was necessary to
create a new symbol for each.
PUNCTUATION MARKS
In punctuation symbols, (exclamation, question,
quotation) there is no difference in opening or closing symbol.
DOUBLE SYMBOL
As it has been mentioned, the six point sign generator gives little opportunity
to make many symbols, so, it was necessary to make double symbols giving the letter they precede, a whole new meaning.
Capital letters (double
symbol)
The alphabet letters are preceded by a capital letter
symbol. For example:

NUMBERS
These are preceded by the number sign; numbers are
formed by using the first 10 letters in the alphabet, from letter A to J.

OTHER EXAMPLES OF NUMBERS
When we use fractional numbers, we use the same method
to write them; the only difference is that the numerator is formed by the
punctuation symbol: example:
